Periodically, the Village's collection is enhanced through gifts, bequests, and purchases.

These two rocking chairs were gifts from Mr. Ira Howard Levy of Salisbury, CT. They are fine examples of the types of chairs that were produced by the Mt. Lebanon Shakers in the late 19th century.

This oil painting was donated to HSV by Christopher Thrane of South Burlington, VT. Rendered by local Pittsfield artist Frederick Thrane, the donor’s uncle, he probably painted this unusual view of Hancock from the east during the 1950s. This scene can be generally dated to the time when the Shakers still inhabited the village, as the color of the Tannery is still a crisp white.

This wonderful pair of wooden crutches was donated to HSV by Raymond Leger of Rochester, NH. The high-quality woodworking tradition of the Shakers is evident even in something as simple as the crescent-shaped arm holds. These crutches date from around 1860, and were most likely made at New Lebanon, NY.

Shaker Barn (Golden View), Hancock, Mass is an oil painting by local artist Lorraine Lauzon. The iconic round stone barn at Hancock has captured the imagination of many artists over the years. This view depicts the barn in the late fall, as a golden light bathes it in bright color. The painting was donated to HSV by the artist’s daughter, Michelle Lauzon, of Arlington, VA.

This stove was purchased by Amanda Batey and Bernie Margolis from Mr. and Mrs. Wendell Hess of Enfield, N.H. and donated to HSV in March of 2008. The Hess’s purchased this stove from Jim Brown of Lee, MA who worked in the Wagan & Co. Chair Factory at Mt. Lebanon as a boy.
